CMO Salary

A full-time CMO’s fully loaded cost typically runs well into six figures once base salary, bonus, benefits, equity, and recruiting costs are counted, before the team and budget they will request to be effective.

The fully loaded number is the honest comparison point for alternatives: a fractional CMO delivering strategy and channel oversight at a small fraction of that cost, an agency retainer, or a senior marketing hire with executive advisory support.

The decision hinges on workload shape: if the strategic work is ten hours a week but the title demands full-time pay, the structural answer is fractional: full-time judgment, part-time cost.
