Usability Testing

Analytics tells you where users drop off; usability testing tells you why. Watching five users attempt “find the price and request a quote” surfaces most of a site’s serious problems: confusing navigation, ambiguous labels, forms that ask for too much.

Moderated tests (you observe and probe) yield the richest insight; unmoderated tools and session recordings scale cheaper. Even hallway tests with non-customers catch issues invisible to a team that knows the site too well.

The discipline pairs with heuristic evaluation: expert review finds violations of known usability principles fast, and user testing validates which ones actually cost conversions.
